About me - continued

Whilst having the experience of many years of lettering on glass, it is in the last few years that I have been able to concentrate on my free design work, now that I no longer carry out lettering work for Bristol Blue Glass. Most of my creative work is for commissions or exhibitions. I like to explore the humour, ambiguities and interaction of the human situation - presented in a decorative design format.

Narrative figurative work is a strong theme in my glass design and Stanley Spencer's depiction of the human form was a major influential factor at Art College in the 1960's.

I have used the intaglio method of engraving (shallow cutting and 'sculpting' into the glass surface) for many years but since 1999 I have been engraving on coloured overlay glass specially blown for me by Neil Wilkin, Andy Potter and Sonja Klingler. More recently I have been exploring fusing glass and enamelling prior to sandblasting and engraving it.
